Goals of the 1st funding phase
The OVGU has initiated processes to establish gender equality and implemented gender mainstreaming structures, in particular through BMBF funding within the framework of the programs for female professors. However, it is still at the beginning of the road in developing structures and processes that integrate gender dimensions in research and development. It is important to recognize the potential of gender and also diversity perspectives for research in general (e.g., Maier 2019) and to develop the willingness to practice gender implementation practices for own projects. Three needs in particular emerge clearly in this regard:
Needs
1. Gain acceptance and generate interest: Creatively and diplomatically countering ignorance about or resistance to gender and diversity research.
2. Increase the visibility of individual actors with a gender and diversity perspective and support their networking with each other[1].
3. Integrate OVGU's support services and experts for research and third-party funding applications more strongly into research cooperation and planning processes.
The conceptual phase follows on from the funding policy goal of "ensuring a needs-oriented consideration of the gender (and diversity) dimension in research and development in all subject areas in order to promote an excellent orientation of research". To this end, participatory cultures and structures for improving knowledge transfer are to be established and expanded in perspective, which serve to implement gender and diversity research and development. Taking selected recommendations for action from the Third Report on Gender Equality as a model, we are focusing on promoting gender/diversity-sensitive research via gender/diversity-sensitive digitization of university processes (cf. Raudonat et al. 2019).
Project progress
In the development of the structure-building concept, in order to concretize needs, barriers, goals, and measures for the establishment of participatory research and development spaces, the following will be carried out
a) a structured situation and deficit analysis will be conducted as an inventory of the OVGU in order to gain insights into causes and mechanisms that hinder or also promote gender research. Subsequently
b) planning and implementation of events with the aim to identify relevant stakeholders in the organization for the concept development in order to develop concrete goals and plan cooperations for the implementation with the help of the experts Prof. Claude Draude and Dr. Mara Kuhl.
